Apparently Wolverines Are Not Extinct in California

Thought to be extinct from California nearly 100 years ago as a result of the fur trade, (about the same time that our state animal, the Grizzly Bear, was hunted to extinction in the Golden State), this Wolverine was spotted in 2008 roaming around in Tahoe. wolverine Though it has since been determined that it wasn’t a member of some clan of wolverines that has resided in the forest all this time, avoiding detection.  Rather, it comes from somewhere in Idaho - about 800 miles away from either the Sawtooth or Cascade ranges.  Methinks it didn’t travel all that way on its own four paws, but rather, hitched a ride on a semi or in the trunk of a kidnapper’s car who thought it was cute but soon discovered that it is in fact vicious.

Anyhoo, ‘buddy’ the Wolverine is exhibiting behaviors of looking for a mate…posing and marking territory in typical Wolverine mating behaviors.  wolverineSoooo, if there are any lonely lasses out there, looking to date a Gulo gulo, aka a wolverine, you know where to find a willing mate….after all, he is the largest member of the weasel family.
