Black Jack Tacos from Taco Bell

Fast food product packaging, IMHO, is fascinating…like that of the McDLT and the 7 eleven Big Nachos with Free cheese.  So you can imagine how floored i was when i saw commercials for the Black Jack taco from Taco Bell…Where the brilliant marketing geniuses at Taco Bell decided to let the food itself be the packaging.  Brilliant.  Really.  No, no…i am being serious.  My guess is that this will be a very popular Taco Bell menu item, similar to the McDonald’s shamrock shake and McRib sandwich which make their appearances only on special occasions, and when they do….look out!

“I’ll have the supersized #5 Value meal…and ooh!  throw in a McRib too!”

Mark my words, the 89 cent Black Jack taco is the next Shamrock Shake.

For only 89 cents you can get 210 calories and 17 grams served up in a blackened taco shell…

The Volcano Box

…or, as i call it, the “Volcano Barf.”

The colors in this combo meal from Taco Bell makes me very concerned.  Why concerned?  I’m glad that you asked.

The marketing folks at taco bell are very good.

They know what brings people in, they know how to mass market and advertise.  SO, assuming that they are on the mark with this delightful advertising scheme, it says a lot about what your average American is attracted to when thinking about what to have for the next meal…and it seems that the winning factor is unnatural colors!  This combo meal color scheme looks as if it comes from Bizzaro’s world - where all the colors are backwards and unnatrual to the world as we know it.  Look at the highlighter-marker blue glow of that ginormous drink!  How about that red-food dye #5 color of the taco shell? What about the Kermit-the-frog green colored lettuce!  The tree-bark brown beef coloring…  The cheese, tomato and white dollops of sour cream combination make a delightful, almost Calder-esque color scheme…

anyways, if the colors alone aren’t enough to turn you off, how about the 2010 mgs of sodium, the 800 calories and 42 grams of fat in the burrito?
