Hrm - The Jury Is Still Out
is it appealing in a Cat Power’s-The Covers Record sort of way, or nausea-inducing in a that-song-should-never-be-covered-by-anyone sort of way?
You decide.
Frankly, it makes me want to go listen to Joanna Newsom…and I_don’t_know_why.
Maybe because i ate a burrito for lunch…and i need to listen to something to keep the frijoles down.
but still, there is a feeling you get when listening to other bits of her catalog that is similar to that feeling that Luke experienced when he first landed on Degobah (after he hallucinated in a blizzard and a ghostly Ben implores him to go to the swamp planet), whilst chewing on some gross MRE beef stick, mumbling to R2, right before Yoda shows up…

a feeling of familiarity perhaps?
meh.
Verily, this Nelly cover is a shtick that likely will detract from her more ’serious’ work as an artist, who has played with the likes of Aimee Mann, Sean Hayes…etc. Maybe this marks her decent into a Vampire Weekend sort of sad ending.
