And the First Band to Perform in Outer Space is…
Spandau Ballet?!!! really???? What? WHY?
See, Sir Richard Branson’s company, Virgin Galactic, is all set to be the first commercial space travel service; they recently unveiled Enterprise, its first spaceship, just last week. Which is rather awesome. What is not awesome is that he has chosen the yo yo’s from new wave band, spandau ballet, to perform on one of their first flights….the first band to play in space. Weird choice, i say. Why not the Stones? why new wave? Why not zeppelin or bowie? Why not another knight like Paul McCartney? Would be awesome to have him jam Let it Be with Ringo in weightlessness. How about the remaining members of the Grateful Dead? Ok, maybe those guys are too old for space travel (indeed, i am sure they are, and it would likely result in several livers exploding in zero Gs), but then why not someone contemporary that people know about? Clearly this is a PR splash…so hows about the Jonas brothers or Miley Cyrus or Taylor Swift? I’m sure Ricky Martin would do it. I’m fairly certain Kip Winger or Vince Neil would sign up for the job. Why choose a really-aging New Wave band that has 3 hits from the 80’s? Probably because they are Sir Richard’s favorite band? Anyways, I find it a baffling choice.

Because Math and Food Go So Well Together
Yo, check it. So there i was, eating a bagel, wondering how to make a mobius strip out of it. Because, you know, lox and cream cheese are so much more fun to eat off of a non-orientable, single-sided strip of breading. I mean, right???
But, alas, i couldn’t wrap my head around it, so i found this site instead, that shows you how to cut a bagel into two equal halves that linked together as if they were a portion of a chain. And so I said to myself, “Self, that is pretty cool, let’s do that instead of the Mobius Strip thing.”

Full instructions - done with shockingly awesome use of the three dimensional Cartesian coordinate system - of how to make this brilliance of math and food can be found here.
Gear Junkies: Share Your Knowledge and Passions Online
So you may be that guy that has 9 pairs of skis in your garage - granted, some are ATs, some are phat skis, some are skates, some are for ice, some are for early-season rock days….but still, you have 9 skis. And then you may be that guy that has 5 bikes - granted, 2 are road bikes, 1 is a mountain bike, 1 is a hipster fixed wheelie, and another is a hybrid….but still you have 5 bikes.
Aaaand you may have 8 surfboards - short, long, hybrid, fish….whatever - you get the point. Bikes, skis, boards, climbing gear, camping gear, cameras and electronics…it all piles up in a single room to create a man cave - or perhaps it is spread throughout your abode to create a man-nest. Or your girlfriend/wife makes you put it all in the garage, creating a man-shed. You like your activities and you have the gear. Likely, you have good knowledge and stories to share, and just as likely, you have videos and pictures of galore. So, why not throw it online and share the tales? Share the recommendations? share the tips and tricks? Give your own personal reviews on the latest shiz and thoughts on best practices. That’s what sites like outdoorgearadvisor.com is all about - just some dude taking it a step beyond the physical - to the online realm and sharing the knowledge. I look forward to more people doing the same - Yes, there are a gagillion personal blogs out there already sorta doing this, but i encourage more, more, more. It makes the cyberwebtubesinternet that much fresher. And it removes the reliance on crummy reviews and forum posts on eCommerce sites to get ideas and real opinions on products that you are looking to add to your arsenal.
